Why change the Simplenet brand name?
When my wife and I launched Simplenet, I had just left an IT company named Cybernet, and the name Simplenet was a play on that.
Also, back then, our focus was to get small businesses online—it’s simple to be on the internet—that was our tagline. We offered free website templates, free domains for the first year, etc.
Initially, we focused only on the Romanian market, where the Simplenet name stood out as unique.
However, reality struck when we decided to create an English website for an international audience, and we discovered numerous other Simplenets.
There are other brands named “Simple Net” or “Simplenet” in various countries, and it was confusing for potential clients.
Recently, we received an order from someone in Germany who inquired about when we would install their internet service. This isn’t the first time we’ve received an order, ticket, or question unrelated to our actual services.
So, we decided it was time to rebrand and find a unique name.
Also, we are way past our initial value proposition of getting small businesses online. We now work with more established online businesses, such as publishers and online shops, to offer them reliable and scalable web hosting.
Meet Kiravo
To be honest, Kiravo doesn’t mean anything in particular.
And that’s exactly why we chose it. Kiravo is a blank canvas. It’s a word you haven’t seen a hundred times before. It carries no baggage. It’s fresh, minimal, and just a little bit mysterious.
It sounds modern. It feels clean. It fits.
The only connection it has is with our last name – Chira. We are a small, family-owned business, so Kiravo carries a piece of our family in its name. In Romanian, the chi is pronounced ki, so our family name Chira is pronounced like Kira (well, actually more like Kieraa).
That’s Kiravo.
What’s changing?
Just the name and logo. Everything else—our platform, our infrastructure, our support, our values—remains the same.
